This hidden nine patch batik quilt features fabric from Bali. Traditional batik techniques using overdye and motifs create beautiful and intricate designs on the fabric.
The back of this quilt is green and is 100% cotton hand-dyed. The binding is also from 100% cotton.
The quilting is completely free-motion, no computerized quilting was done, using my longarm from Handi Quilter. The angles were created using rulers and some of the fill designs are also ruler work.
When I started this quilt I didn't have a particular design in mind. It was primarily creating a complete quilt, using a single block, the hidden nine patch. Once it was on my quilt frame, and I started quilting it became a representation of South Africa. The multitude of cultures and the intricate patterns that are woven in our society can only be South African.
Mountains are created by the angles and parts of the quilting represent the flora of our beautiful country. Above the mountains are the beautiful stars that are visible in the bushveld at night. We have many different climates in the country varying from humid forests to dry deserts and beautiful mountain ranges. This is represented in the quilt design.
The quilt measures 1,5m x 1,5m and a custom label will be made according to your request.
